What happens if your state shuts down during an emergency and you have no way to feed your family? Food and water is essential to ensuring your family survives any disaster. Don’t wait until it’s too late or until an emergency strikes. Here is how to feed your family during a state-wide disaster.
#1. Don’t wait till it is too late.
When a state-wide disaster hits, you want to be prepared already. I will share some tips on what to do if you’re not prepared. However, I am begging you now to not wait until it’s too late. Start making some plans now to help ensure your family is fed. Spend $20 a month stock piling food in your home for an emergency. Keep it in a place that could be accessible after a tornado or a hurricane. Perhaps putting it in a basement or crawlspace isn’t the best option. Find a secure place in your home in which you can access food, even after a disaster strikes.
#2. Contact the local food banks.
Most food banks are designed to help handle emergencies. They work with larger food banks to make sure they are prepared to help those in need. If you are safe and the food bank is open, give them a call. If they can’t help you, the least you can do is call.
#3. FEMA is a great resource during a state-wide emergency.
Believe it or not, but there are programs out there preparing for a natural disaster to happen. It’s not like they want natural disasters to happen, but they want to help those in need. FEMA is usually called in to help feed families during natural disasters. FEMA is a gov’t program though, so if you don’t want to rely on the government to feed your family, this could be a no go.
#4. Use “Find Food” as a resource.
If there is a state-wide emergency, it can be hard to know how to feed your family. There is a resource called “Find Food” in which you can search for a food program near you. This is assuming you will have access to a computer or a phone.
#5. Plot with your neighbors.
If your neighbors are into getting prepared, just like you are, then why not plan with them? Each neighbor can work on being a piece of the emergency puzzle. If a disaster were ever to strike, you would be the ones helping each other. Just something to think about. Working together is a major key in survival.
